Born and raised in Oceanside, New York, Mathew developed a love for animals at an early age. Growing up, he cared for a variety of unique pets, including a Samoyed named Dakota, seven ball pythons, two panther chameleons, four leopard geckos, and freshwater fish. Although he originally dreamed of becoming a zoo veterinarian, his passion for veterinary medicine continued to grow and ultimately led him to pursue a career in the field.
Mathew graduated with honors and earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine. During his veterinary education, he was also a member of the Society of Phi Zeta Veterinary Honor Society. His experience with animals began long before veterinary school—he worked as a zookeeper at the Staten Island Zoo and gained experience as a veterinary assistant around Long Island while growing up.
One of the things Mathew enjoys most about veterinary medicine is internal medicine, with a special interest in liver and kidney cases. At home, he shares his life with two cats, Lyra, a lynx point Scottish Fold, and Mickey, a grey Domestic Shorthair, both of whom he adopted during veterinary school.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Mathew loves staying active and spending time outdoors. His hobbies include hiking, skiing, swimming, and cycling. He also enjoys being creative and going to the movies, and his ever-growing plant collection reflects his love for caring for living things. Most recently, he has reignited his passion for fish and is currently cycling a freshwater aquarium with plans to create a second reef tank.
