Surgery

Surgery

At Bronx Veterinary Center, we strive to make your pet’s surgical procedure as comfortable and stress-free as possible. We understand that surgery is not an easy experience for you or your pet. All of our veterinarians have extensive surgical experience and can perform a wide range of soft tissue and orthopedic procedures, from routine spay and neuter surgeries to patella luxation and anterior cruciate rupture repairs. Your pet also has access to the latest veterinary surgical equipment.

Your pet’s comfort and safety during surgery is the hospital’s number one priority. Before your pet’s surgery, we perform a complete physical examination and conduct a series of blood tests. We use these tests to identify any pre-existing conditions that may affect the use of anesthesia on your pet. From the information we collect, we develop an anesthetic protocol that’s unique to your pet.

During surgery, your pet’s vital signs—including heart rate, blood oxygen level, temperature, and respiratory rate—are monitored using the latest and most sophisticated medical technology. Your pet is kept warm and comfortable during the procedure and one of the hospital’s trained veterinary technicians keeps a close watch on your pet.

Pain management is an important part of both intra- and post-operative protocol. Following surgery, we administer pain control medications to your pet. We may also send pain medication home with you if necessary. Preventing post-operative pain keeps your pet comfortable and speeds up his or her recovery time.
